Crosslink EMPAC™

Conductive polymer coatings designed for solid electrolyte capacitor anodes are on the edge of metallic behavior, making them effective in several areas essential to the electronics marketplace:

  • Increasing the speed at which a capacitor can release its charge – a critical feature for today’s high-speed electronics.
  • Lowering the equivalent series resistance (ESR), which helps reduce energy requirements on circuit boards.
  • Allowing higher capacitance per unit volume, which means more energy can be created in a smaller area, supporting the drive for device miniaturization.
  • Adding to these benefits, Crosslink Energy Materials, a division of Crosslink, offers a new—potentially step-change—technology to the capacitor industry.

As capacitor anodes are dipped in Crosslink EMPAC, they are coated to
increase the speed of released charge and reduce production costs and cycle
time, among other benefits.

The Crosslink EMPAC™ Product Family

Crosslink EMPAC™, a family of coatings based on soluble polyaniline (PANI), can deliver significant advantages over currently used polythiophene- (PEDOT) and polypyrrole- (PPY) based systems.  Three types of Crosslink EMPAC coatings are available:

  • External Sealant – This Crosslink EMPAC sealant is a final coating layer that improves electrical connection around corners, edges, and defects.
  • External Coating – A total replacement for other systems, this coating is a commanding new solution for the Electrical Completion stage.
  • Internal Coating – Supporting the desire for higher capacitance per unit volume, the internal coating is used at the Cathode Formation stage.

Key Benefits

Capacitor manufacturers using Crosslink EMPAC may experience marked improvement in many aspects of capacitor production. Specifically, Crosslink EMPAC reduces:
  • Production costs
  • Production cycle time
  • Polymer waste
  • Yield loss
  • Part rejects

Because Crosslink EMPAC is based on soluble doped polyaniline, it has attributes no current coating can replicate, making it especially well-suited for capacitors.

With production capacity in place, Crosslink Energy Materials is well-positioned to deliver this step-change technology to the capacitor industry.
